Museum Service Hamburg

A total of 22 Hamburg museums now benefits from the central visitor service run by the Museum Service, which also coordinates museum education programmes at the Altonaer Museum, the Museum for Hamburg History, the Museum of Work and at their branches in the Port Museum and the Jenisch House.

One of the core tasks carried out by this important service provider is to develop exciting ways for the Historic Museums Hamburg Foundation to impart knowledge. The Museum Service team are always coming up with new ideas and methods to make the fascinating collections and exhibitions at the Historic Museums Hamburg accessible for school and children’s groups, and for young people, adults and families, by offering guided tours, museum talks and open workshops for children.

They also provide activities for families and special holiday programmes for groups of all ages and interests. The guided tours through the permanent and special exhibitions can even be booked in sign language. Every year around 250,000 visitors make use of the information and educational services provided by the Museum Service team.

One of the highlights of the year is Hamburg’s largest culture party, the Long Night of the Museums. The Museum Service Hamburg has been organising this with great success since 2001. With more than 30,000 enthusiastic visitors each year, it is clear just how popular it is.
