Precious III. Biennial of Applied Art by AdK and GEDOK

31.07. – 01.09.2024

Andreas Möller, Container Objects

This summer, more than 70 artists from the AdK and the GEDOK are presenting around 200 exhibits at the Museum der Arbeit under the title “Wertvoll” (“Valuable”), offering a comprehensive insight into the broad and diverse spectrum of contemporary arts and crafts. Using objects made of glass, wood, ceramics and paper, as well as textiles and jewelry made of gold and precious stones, the exhibition aims to show the classical cultural techniques, but also the innovative working methods and craftsmanship know-how with which the arts and crafts express the various trends in today’s society. Thematically, the artists’ selection of works is based on the increasingly rapid change in values with regard to handicraft products. Apart from the continuing appreciation for working with precious metals such as gold, silver and gemstones, criteria such as the sustainable use of materials and resources also play an important role in assessing the quality of craftsmanship today. However, the category of value today also goes far beyond the purely material: aspects such as socio-political commitment, openness, tolerance and respect in daily interaction play an increasingly important role in contemporary arts and crafts. The exhibition will also feature works by HAW students, who will present their very own view of current developments. This year’s Carolina D’Amico Prize for Contemporary Arts and Crafts will be awarded at the opening of the exhibition.
